This blog site has been created by Terri Brickey to keep friends and family posted on my adventures sailing our Andrews 56 with my hubby Vernon.
Vernon and I met in 1977 on a blind date in Long Beach, CA. He enjoyed golf and I scuba diving, and we enjoyed introducing those hobbies to each other. One summer we decided to learn to sail together and ended up taking a course through Long Beach College on a Shields in Alamitos Bay. We moved on to club rentals then our first boat, Wanderlust, a 30 foot Tayana. But once Vernon got the bug to go faster and we vacationed in the Caribbean, we sold Wanderlust and purchased an Oyster 40, Expedite, located in Antigua in 1986.

We quit our jobs and flew down to start our first adventure. We brought along our son, Steve, who at the time was 18 months old. Yes, young and adventurous and a bit naive, we set out through the islands for the next 9 months.(see posts with this picture)

Our second adventure started from Corpus Christi in 1998, where we co-owned a Santa Cruz 50, Passion. We took Passion through the Caribbean for about 8 months with our son Steve, 12 and our daughter, Kaylyn, 8.(see posts with this picture)
And now, Encore. Vernon’s dream boat. For the past 7 years we have lived in Southern California, working and enjoying Encore, back where we had begun sailing, in Alamitos Bay, Long Beach. We named her such since we are probably doing this ‘one more time’. Vernon retired and me, on a temporary reprieve, we hope to go at this a little slower and more relaxed than the first two adventures.
