Day 4 in Ensenada.

We got off to an auspicious start with this adventure. So far, dealing with the boat has not been fun.
Not much better than dealing with the house selling (glad it sold but the process was hard), cramming all our belongings into my daughter’s garage (thank you K & D) and trying to tie up loose ends at work, lots of loose ends. And it was the holidays. For the first time in 40 years I don’t decorate or get a tree. We enjoyed holiday get-togethers with family and friends and lots of going away parties. Each of my departments and individual staff reached out to show me they have appreciated my work over the years. It meant a lot to me. Vernon’s team did the same. Amazing!

The day after our last day of work we flew to Syracuse, New York.  As we take off from John Wayne airport we pass over Hoag and I look back at all the homes from the ocean to the mountains, one after another and stacked up freeways full of endless traffic (where is everyone going all the time?) and I take a big breath.

This crowded, congested populous is behind me know. Southern California, the most beautiful weather and countless activities if you can partake in if you can just get through the crowds to enjoy it.

We fly east to visit with my son Steve and his wife Sarah and my two adorable granddaughters. That was a week of pleasure that sped by. Squeals, laughter and joy that only a 20 month old and 2 month old can bring. Then we flew straight to San Diego, made one last West Marine stop and spent the night in a hotel. Last Thursday January 12th we took the trolley to the San Ysidro border crossing. Luckily we met an Ensenada native on the trolley and she guided us across the border and onto the bus to Ensenada.     img_4785

We have been working on cleaning and organizing the boat and trying to establish communication with folks back home. Like I mentioned before, communication has become so easy, so constant, that I know it will be the hardest habit for me to let go. The marina has wifi, so as promised, I established this blog. It will be interesting to see if I am able to keep it going. I will try.

Not much you can’t find here. We walked for three miles yesterday to get to —fullsizerender-4

We got plastic stuff and water jugs and then stopped at Home Depot for electrical items Vernon needed. We are hoping to have good weather to sail south soon. Maybe Tuesday.

I can’t wait for warm weather and turquoise seas.
